A children's sweater with a textured yoke, and plain stocking stitch the rest of the way. It takes after the sweaters worn by fishermen in the past, which is where the name comes from — a dugga was a fishing boat the English sailed around Iceland in the sixteenth century, and the men aboard were called duggarar. The same sweater as the adult Duggari, our most popular pattern so far.
Gauge 18 sts and 24 rounds in stocking stitch = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in)
Yarn Worsted weight · Difficulty 2–3 of 5
The pattern includes detailed explanations, a chart and links to video tutorials.
How it is worked
Worked in one piece from the neck down. The texture pattern runs across the yoke and sleeves while the front neck is shaped — worked back and forth — with increases at the raglan lines. The work is then joined in the round, and the texture and increases continue down to the underarm, after which it is plain stocking stitch. The collar is worked last. Body and sleeve length are easily adjusted.

Materials, tools and techniques
| Yarn | Worsted weight, or any yarn that knits to gauge. A wide range of yarns suits this sweater. The black one shown is worked in CaMaRose Lama Tweed, the light grey in a local merino brand, and the pink in Cascade 220. |
|---|---|
| Needles | 4 mm and 5 mm [US 6 and 8] circular and double-pointed needles, or the size that gives you the right gauge — the circular length depends on the size of the sweater. With the magic loop technique you will not need double-pointed needles. |
| Notions | Stitch markers, including a beginning-of-round marker. Darning needle, measuring tape and scissors. |
| Techniques used | Casting on, knitting and purling, binding off. Increases and decreases to the right and left. Picking up stitches to knit at the neck. A simple texture pattern worked from a chart, both back and forth and in the round, while the neck is shaped and the raglan increases are worked. |
The same sweater in mens sizes: Duggari Sweater, and for babies: Duggari Baby Sweater. The same stitch in accessories: the Duggari Junior Winter Set — beanie, cowl and mittens.
