Auður is a simple and elegant top-down sweater knitting pattern designed with a clean Scandinavian silhouette and an interesting shoulder construction. Worked in soft silk mohair held double, the sweater is lightweight, cozy, and easy to style for both everyday wear and special occasions. The relaxed fit and timeless design make Auður a versatile wardrobe staple and an enjoyable knitting project for all seasons. Originally designed as my own Christmas sweater, it is knitted in a rich red shade that beautifully highlights the soft texture of the yarn, but it will look good in any color.

Construction:

The sweater is worked seamlessly from the neckline down with minimal finishing required. This beginner-friendly knitting pattern keeps the construction simple while still offering a polished and modern result. A perfect project for relaxed knitting sessions or a relaxing “TV knit” for more experienced knitters.

Sizes:

1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6  Finished bust circumference: 93 – 100 – 108 – 118 – 128 – 138 cm / 36.5 – 39.5 – 42.5 – 46.5 – 50.5 – 54.5 inches

Gauge:

16 stitches in stockinette stitch = 10 cm / 4 in.

Needles:

5.5 mm circular needles (80–100 cm) or the size needed to obtain correct gauge. Same size shorter needles for collar and sleeves. If using the magic loop method, separate sleeve needles are not required.

Yarn:

The sweater is knitted holding two strands of silk mohair together. I used Gepard Kid Seta (25 g = 210 m) in color 1008 Red and highly recommend this yarn.

Approximate yarn requirement: 150 – 175 – 175 – 200 – 200 – 225 – 250 g.

As we all knit differently, the exact amount may vary slightly.

Difficulty level:

1-2 out of 5.

Skills needed (or learned along the way):

  • Casting on and binding off
  • Knitting stockinette stitch in the round and flat
  • Left and right increases (M1R, M1L)
  • Decreases in the larger sizes (ssk, k2tog)
  • Picking up stitches to knit for sleeves or sewing sleeves in place
