ENGLISH VERSION COMING SOON!

Freyr is a knitting pattern for a children’s Icelandic wool sweater with a distinctive all-over colorwork design. Unlike the traditional Icelandic lopapeysa, the pattern covers the whole sweater rather than only the yoke, and the sweater is shaped with raglan decreases instead of a circular yoke.

The colorwork makes this an especially enjoyable sweater to knit, with something happening throughout the project. There are many possibilities for color combinations, from subtle and understated to more contrasting versions. The all-over pattern also gives the sweater extra warmth.

Construction

The sweater is knitted from the bottom up. The body and sleeves are worked in the round and joined at the armholes. The yoke is then shaped with raglan decreases.

Sizes

2 – 4 – 6 – 8 – 10 – 12 – 14 years (Child´s height:
92 – 104 – 116 – 128 – 140 – 152 – 164 cm
36¼ – 41 – 45¾ – 50½ – 55¼ – 60 – 64½ in)

Gauge

18 stitches and 24 rounds = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in)

Needles

Circular and double-pointed needles 3.5 mm (US 4) and 4.5 mm (US 7), or the needle sizes needed to obtain the correct gauge.

The length of the circular needles depends on the size being knitted. One long circular needle in each size is sufficient if using the magic loop method.

Yarn

Álafoss Léttlopi or another yarn that matches the gauge. You will need approximately 150-150-150-200-200-200-250 g of the main color and 50-50-50-100-100-100-100 g + 50-50-50-100-100-150-150 g of the contrasting colors.

Difficulty

3–4 out of 5. The pattern uses the following techniques: Casting on, knitting and purling, binding off, increasing to the right and left, and decreases by knitting three stitches together. Stranded knit, worked from a chart. Explanations and additional guidance (links to tutorial videos) are included in the pattern.

Please note that Icelandic is selected by default on the product page. Choose “English” using the button at the top of the page for the English version.

After purchase, you will receive an email containing a link to download the PDF pattern. Once the link is clicked, the file will automatically download.
